All our teachers hold either a degree, masters or PhD in English, a recognised teaching qualification and a current Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau. Validation is shown to the parent or carer before commencement of the first lesson.

Why English Tuition on a One-To-One Basis?

Independent studies show that tuition on a one-to-one basis is the most productive way to learn. At English Tuition we cater for all levels, including primary, secondary, GCSE and A-level in English Language and English Literature. We recognise that not all children progress in the same way. Some students, through no fault of their own, require more intensive tuition from their teachers. Some need to improve their ability to concentrate. Other students may struggle to keep up at school, and this may result in difficulty with their English and basic skills. As a result of one-to-one tuition you will see your child's confidence develop and as a consequence results improve. You will see your child acquire a solid understanding of the fundamentals of English and all lessons complement the National Curriculum. 

What to Expect: 

  • After You Book Your Child's First Session

English Tuition will contact you and organise a convenient time when the Initial Assessment or first session can take place. After this you can book regular weekly slots at a time that suit you.

  • Setting the Scene 

Before the Initial Assessment or first session takes place your tutor will show you copies of their academic qualifications, their teaching qualification and their current Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau. Ideally sessions should take place in a quiet room and parents/guardians are welcome to stay in the room whilst the session is going on. You do not have to supply anything because your teacher will come fully equipped with books, resources, pens and paper!

  • An Initial Assessment for Children Studying at Key Stages 1, 2 or 3

For children studying at Key Stage 1, 2 or 3 during the first session an Initial Assessment takes place. This is used to determine the appropriate level of your child and identify any areas that need specific support. Immediately after the assessment you will receive verbal feedback and then a full written report. The assessment is crucial and ensures that your child works at the correct level for them.

  • As Sessions Progress for Children Studying at Key Stages 1, 2 or 3

Your child then works and progresses smoothly through an Individualised Learning Plan, tailored to the specific needs of your child. By allowing your child to progress at their own pace builds confidence and ensures that there are no gaps in their knowledge.
All sessions are planned to your child's Individualised Learning Plan and mapped to the National Curriculum. Homework is set at the end of each session and targets clearly set. The homework is then either marked with your child the following week or it is marked online. If your child has a very busy week or has lots of homework from school then English Tuition make allowances and give them time off! At  the end of every session you and your child will receive verbal feedback about what was covered within the session, targets and homework set and any other issues.

  • Structured Planning for Children Studying for GCSE, A-Level or 11 Plus Examinations

For children studying at GCSE, A-Level or for the 11 Plus Examination an Initial Assessment is not necessary unless it is deemed so by the parent/guardian.  All classes are planned, structured and centred around the specific Examination Board's criteria that your child is entered with. Homework is set and a deadline arranged between tutor, learner and parent/guardian. All homework is sent to the tutor electronically so that it can be marked and feedback given by the tutor before the next session. This online support is most useful for students studying for GCSE, A-Level or Entrance Examinations.

  • Children Out of Mainstream Education

English Tuition works with various organisations and service providers to supply one-to-one English Tuition to children outside of mainstream education. We offer an excellent support service for children who may have very difficult lives. The sessions with English Tuition allow these children to experience one-to-one individual attention and positive feedback.
